Traveling with confidence: An LGBTQ+ traveler's experience exploring Europe with Greether

Travel has the power to open doors, not only to new places but also to new perspectives, friendships, and experiences that stay with us long after we return home.

At Greether, we believe that some of the most memorable moments happen when travelers connect with local women who can share their city through their own eyes. For many travelers, that local connection can transform a destination from a place on a map into a meaningful experience filled with stories, culture, and genuine human connection.

This Pride Month, we're excited to share the story of Miles, an LGBTQ+ traveler who has booked Greeters in Stockholm, Oslo, and Berlin, with another upcoming adventure already planned in Prague.

For Miles, travel is about much more than checking landmarks off a list. It's about discovering the people, stories, and communities that make each destination unique. And that’s exactly what Greether is for.

Meet Miles

"I'm Miles, a non-binary Filipino-British living in England. I work for an airline. I'm passionate about planespotting, jetskiing, exploring new destinations, learning the stories behind iconic landmarks, and savouring the flavours that define cultures around the world."

Travel is a major part of Miles' life.

"I'm on a plane almost every month. I love exploring new destinations — the culture, the food, the people, and the stories behind every place. There's something special about stepping into a new environment and seeing the world from a different perspective. Travelling around the world adds a sense of purpose to my life that keeps everything feeling alive, never monotonous."

Choosing Destinations as an LGBTQ+ Traveler

For many LGBTQ+ travellers, planning a trip involves more than choosing attractions or restaurants.

"As an LGBTQ+ traveller, I prioritise destinations where I feel safe, respected, and able to be myself. I look for places with strong legal protections, a welcoming atmosphere, and visible LGBTQ+ inclusivity. When those foundations are in place, I can fully enjoy the culture, food, and experiences the destination has to offer."

That search for welcoming destinations led Miles to some of Europe's most vibrant cities, including Stockholm, Oslo, and Berlin.

How Local Connections Changed the Experience

While Miles loves independent travel, he wanted something more personal than a traditional tour.

"I booked a Greeter for my trips to Stockholm, Oslo, and Berlin because I love experiencing a city through the perspective of someone who truly knows it. Greeters help me discover local spots, understand the culture on a deeper level, and explore in a way that feels personal and authentic. Their knowledge makes the whole experience feel deeper, more inviting, and significantly more memorable than exploring the place alone."

One theme appears throughout Miles' experiences in all three cities: connection.

"Having a Greeter made each city feel instantly familiar. Instead of arriving as a stranger, I felt like I had a local friend showing me around. "

"Their stories, recommendations, and genuine warmth helped me connect with the city on a deeper level and made the whole experience far more memorable than exploring alone."

For travelers who want more than a sightseeing checklist, that local perspective can completely transform a trip.

The Difference Between Exploring Alone and Exploring With a Greeter

Many travelers spend hours researching online before arriving in a destination. Others rely on guidebooks or social media recommendations.

For Miles, having a Greeter added something those resources simply cannot provide.

"The biggest difference was the sense of connection. Exploring alone is nice, but having a Greeter added warmth, familiarity, and a human touch to every moment. Their stories and personal insights helped me see each city in a way that felt welcoming and memorable, rather than just another stop on a map."

Why Miles Recommends Greether to LGBTQ+ Travelers

When asked if he would recommend Greether to other LGBTQ+ travelers, his answer was immediate.

"Absolutely. I would recommend Greether to other LGBTQ+ travellers. Having a Greeter provided an added layer of safety, cultural awareness, and reassurance that made each destination easier to navigate. Their local knowledge and understanding of LGBTQ+ considerations helped me make informed choices and feel comfortable throughout my trip. That level of support is incredibly valuable for anyone travelling with identity-related concerns."

Why Inclusive Travel Matters

For Miles, creating welcoming spaces for LGBTQ+ travelers goes far beyond tourism.

"For me, it matters because LGBTQ+ travellers often carry a quiet awareness when we step into new places. Feeling welcome isn't something we can assume, and that shapes how we move through the world. When a space feels genuinely inclusive, that weight lifts. You can breathe, be yourself, and actually enjoy the moment."

"Those small but meaningful signals of safety and understanding turn travel into something that feels human and uplifting. Creating more of those spaces means more of us get to experience the world with ease, joy, and a sense of belonging."

A Message for Other LGBTQ+ Travelers

Before we wrapped up our conversation, Miles shared one final thought for anyone considering their next adventure.

"What I'd share is that some of my most meaningful travel moments have come from simply being myself and finding genuine warmth in places I never expected. Those small gestures of kindness stay with you. They remind you that you belong, even far from home. I hope other LGBTQ+ travellers feel encouraged to get out there, to embrace those small but meaningful connections, and to remember they're worthy of travelling with joy, comfort, and a true feeling of belonging."

Travel Is Better When It Feels Personal

The cities Miles visited are famous for their architecture, culture, food, and history. Yet when he looks back on his experiences in Stockholm, Oslo, and Berlin, what stands out most are the human connections.

That is the heart of what we do at Greether.

We connect travelers with verified local women who help them experience a destination through local knowledge, genuine conversation, and authentic cultural insight. For solo travelers, LGBTQ+ travelers, groups of women, and women traveling with children, those connections can transform a trip from memorable to unforgettable.

Because sometimes the best part of a destination isn't a landmark, it's the person who helps you discover it. 👯‍♀️🌍
