The Amsterdam trip every female traveler deserves: My experience booking a Greeter

There is something magical about arriving in a new city and feeling welcomed from the very first moment by a real person who lives there.

As travelers, we spend hours researching destinations, saving TikToks, creating Google Maps lists, and building itineraries. Yet some of the most memorable moments often come from the experiences we never could have planned ourselves.

That was exactly what happened when Erin Jabrocki, Founder of the Liberal Girlfriends Travel Club (LGTC), arrived in Amsterdam and decided to book a Greeter.

For women who love meaningful travel, authentic local experiences, and genuine human connection, her story is a reminder that sometimes the best way to experience a city is through the eyes of someone who calls it home.

Meet Erin

"I’m the classic girl who studied abroad and never shut up about it," Erin laughs.

After studying in Rome during college, travel quickly became a defining part of her life. What started as a study abroad experience eventually turned into a career in travel and a mission to help more women and non-binary travelers explore the world with confidence.

"I had no clue what I was doing after graduating college, and eventually decided to pursue work in the travel industry. I launched my company in 2020, founded LGTC in 2024, and have been chasing my dream of empowering more women and non-binary travelers to see the world ever since."

Why She Decided to Book a Greeter in Amsterdam

The idea came unexpectedly.

"Greether popped up on my TikTok FYP as I was getting ready for my latest trip to Europe with LGTC, and I literally gasped out loud."

The concept immediately resonated with her.

"Everything about Greether made soooo much sense to me, and for the people I help travel. I knew I had to try it out. Plus, who doesn’t LOVE the idea of a new friend waiting for you in your destination?"

And so, when she arrived in Amsterdam, she met her local Greeter, Tessa.

Amsterdam Through a Local Woman's Eyes

Even though Erin had visited Amsterdam before, this trip felt completely different.

"I’d been to Amsterdam before, but even so having a Greeter to explore the city with made it feel so welcoming."

Instead of figuring out where to go next or constantly checking directions, she was able to simply enjoy the experience.

"I didn’t have to stress about navigating, or where to go next, because my Greeter did such a lovely job of walking us through her city and showing it to me through her eyes."

That local perspective is often what travelers miss when they explore on their own.

A city becomes more than landmarks and attractions. It becomes stories, favorite neighborhoods, local traditions, and personal recommendations that never make it into a guidebook.

The Moment She Knew It Was Worth It

One of the biggest benefits surprised her.

It wasn't a hidden attraction or a famous photo spot; it was how quickly she felt comfortable.

"Instantly feeling at ease, relaxed, and ready to explore the city instead of the initial kind of 'prep' you need to do to start out, you know?"

Instead of spending time researching restaurants, attractions, or local favorites, she simply asked Tessa.

"I didn’t need to look up any restaurants or things to see. I just asked my Greeter for her advice and she took me there!"

For many women travelers, that peace of mind can completely transform a trip.

Favorite Moments in Amsterdam

Some of Erin's favorite memories happened in the Jordaan neighborhood.

"Tessa walked me through the market set up in the Jordaan neighborhood and helped me pick out a gift for all the LGTC members I was traveling with."

But what stood out most wasn't the market itself; it was the connection.

"She also taught me a bit of Dutch and genuinely just felt like a friend. It was peak girlhood."

That feeling of connection is difficult to create through traditional tours or travel experiences.

It's what happens when travel becomes personal.

Why Erin Recommends Booking a Greeter

When asked what she would tell other women considering booking a Greeter, her answer was immediate.

"Instantly, you will feel welcomed. You will have someone in your corner, someone who can answer your questions and help you feel at ease."

But beyond practical support, Erin believes the real value comes from connecting with local women.

"Best of all, you get to really connect with someone in the destination you're visiting which I think for most of us, if not all of us, is the whole freaking point of leaving home and exploring the world."

— Erin Jabrocki

Travel Is Better When We Connect

One of the things we believe at Greether is that travel becomes more meaningful when it creates opportunities for women to support women.

When you book a Greeter, you're not only gaining local insights and a personalized experience. You're also supporting a local woman's economy, learning from her perspective, and creating connections that make travel feel more human.

For Erin, that is exactly what happened in Amsterdam.

"This platform is amazing, the vision is incredible, and I can't recommend it highly enough."

"Greether is doing the work to make the world a smaller and better place through community and connection and I am ALL about it."

— Erin Jabrocki
